entrópica is a tropical architecture studio in panamá, led by deep expertise in energy modelling, building thermodynamics, and climate science. we are architects first; simulation is the instrument, not the author. the model informs. the architecture decides.

the things temperate-climate practice treats as afterthoughts, shade, airflow, moisture, energy, are, for us, the design material itself. the building is not a container for performance. the performance is the building.

energy and operational costs are rarely part of architectural decision-making.

in the conventional design process, architectural decisions are made before energy impact is visible. modelling is introduced too late to influence form. operational costs are evaluated after intent is fixed. by then, most meaningful savings are already lost.

tropical climate operating environment

the tropics are a fundamentally different operating environment.

constant heat, constant humidity, constant sun. cooling, dehumidification, and solar control are permanent loads, not peak conditions. design decisions that would be forgiving in a temperate climate compound here, quickly and measurably.

imported standards and generic workflows fail to predict real operational behaviour. tropical buildings need tropical thinking, from the section up.

simulation drives the design, not the deck.

we use building performance simulation (energy+, openfoam, radiance) the way a structural engineer uses a fea model: early, often, and small. each model answers one question. each answer rewrites one piece of the section.

the result is performance that meets or exceeds leed and edge, earned through the design itself, not bolted on as a certificate.
